November would be my first choice.  Knowing our lives would be full of  joy, would work for me!

Our first date was in the basement of my dorm, and we made brownies. Oh and I taught him how to salsa.

Mind you, this was three years ago! Since then we had been through a lot, including 2 months over-seas separation due to work.

We had taken a cruise in May, and I thought he would propose then. But…no. Nada. I just thought he would wait until our anniversary. Very blah.

I was wrong.

It was a hot night in June–the kind of night that makes Kansas famous. It was sticky, and the apartment A.C. wasn’t quite working. I had just moved into my own apartment, but I was staying the weekend with my boyfriend to spend time with him.

We had just finished some random TV show, it was 9:00 at night, and all of a sudden he said that wanted brownies. We had made brownies several times before, so I thought that he just wanted brownies…

In the brownie box there was a ring. When I open it, he was down on one knee and asking me to marry him and continue on dancing in his heart (corny, but…).

Apparently he had been saving for the ring for a year and had even asked my parents for permission.

I was in shock for about a week. Now at the wedding we are giving away bite-sized brownie bites to everyone as a thank-you gift.

While it may not be romantic to many, it was perfect for our relationship.

What to ask your wedding caterer.  Ensure stress-free planning with good communication between you and your caterer.

1.  Will the banquet coordinator be there on my wedding day?

•  Request your coordinator be there to see your wedding through.

2.  How does the caterer handle final count, last-minute RSVPs or no shows?

•   Does the caterer have a set date for final count? 

The Castle Yacht Club:          Your final count is due only 5 days prior to your event. Allowing plenty of time for last-minute invites or regrets.

3.  What is included in the price per person?

• Ask if certain things are included in price; taxes, linens, gratuity

The Castle Yacht Club:          Price includes signature dishes; Chateaubriand, Stuffed flounder and over 20 passed Hors d’oeuvres.  Along with choice of linens, centerpieces, wedding cake and international coffee and espresso bar.

4.  How many servers will my guests have per table?

• You may always ask for more staff but remember it may increase the cost per person.  The general code is one server per two tables.

The Caste Yacht Club:            Two servers for every three tables, plus wine stewards, greeters and captains.

5.  Does the staff wear a uniform?

• The servers are in uniform in most venues.

The Castle Yacht Club:          The staff wears a uniform and has on occasion dressed according to the theme if requested by the bride.

6.  Can we tour the kitchen?

• The kitchen is the place to look if you want to see the true cleanliness of the venue.

7.  What is done with the left over food?

• The leftover food must be handled according to the Health Department regulations.  Food is not permitted off the premises.

The Castle Yacht Club:          Abides by the Burlington County Health Department Regulations.

Save the Date Etiquette

Do’s

• Do finalize your guest list first before sending out invites
• Do send within 6 months of the date (8-12 months if it is a destination wedding)
• Do include your bridesmaids, siblings and parents in the Save the Date invite
• Do include ‘and guest’ along with all names of invited guests:
• This will eliminate any assumed invitees (children, cousin’s new boyfriend, etc.)

• Do go less formal.  Keep it classy and simple. Be creative
• Do include: both of your names, date, location, web-site if needed, and formal wedding invite will follow.
• Do mark envelope, ‘magnet included’, if you are sending a Save the Date magnet

 Don’ts

• Do not send out to far in advance: people may toss them aside
• Do not send out right before finalizing your guest list: remember once you send the Save the Date you cannot un-invite them.
• Do not go formal: save that for your wedding invite!
• Do not go off-color: keep it classy and tasteful
• Do not include bridal registry in the Save the Date
• Do not include confetti or any other item that may fall out of the envelope (nothing that has to be vacuumed)
• Don’t forget to have fun while designing or choosing the perfect Save the Date
